Players and organisers of an innovative new women’s cricket tournament set for launch in Dubai this week say they hope it will help grow the sport beyond its traditional heartlands.

The FairBreak Invitational is a six-team, T20 franchise competition, which will run for 11 days at the Dubai International Stadium, starting on Wednesday.

The 90 players involved are drawn from over 30 different countries. While established powers of the game such as Australia, England and West Indies are all represented, so too are the likes of Vanuatu and Bhutan, while there are also four players from UAE.

Here is everything you need to know about the FairBreak Invitational 2022, an ICC-sanctioned women’s T20 tournament which will get underway in Dubai from May 4.

The FairBreak Invitational 2022 is an ICC sanctioned competition that will take place in Dubai in May 2022. The event, organised in conjunction with Cricket Hong Kong, is a six-team affair featuring players from all around the world.

This is also the first privately-funded tournament in women’s cricket history.

FairBreak’s endeavour to deliver the tournament goes back to the pillars of their mission statement, using cricket to create opportunities “that progress gender equality on a truly global scale.”

Almost 40 nations are represented in this year’s FairBreak Invitational, showcasing some of the best women’s talent across the Associate and Full Member worlds.

Nineteen matches will be played in the six-team from May 4 to May 15, the first privately-run women’s T20 league of its type.
